Why should we plan before applying for rebates?
Planning and written pre-approval can determine whether a project qualifies, but different rebates require different documents. The CleanBC Go Electric guide dated July 15, 2026 requires an EV Ready Plan, qualifying Electrical Planning Report or opportunity assessment for new MURB charger pre-approval applications. EV Ready infrastructure funding still requires an approved EV Ready Plan. An EPR alone does not unlock every EV rebate.
Start with the property’s electrical supply, existing demand and proposed loads. Then confirm the applicable program, planning document and approval sequence. The program guide describes a theoretical combined EV Ready maximum of $137,000 per building; that is not a single rebate, a promise of funding or an entitlement created by commissioning a report. Official EV program guide, July 15, 2026.
How much can a strata, co-op or rental building receive for EV charging?
Under the July 15, 2026 CleanBC Go Electric guide, the standard EV Ready Plan rebate is up to 75% of eligible cost, capped at $3,000; infrastructure is up to 50%, capped at $600 per stall and $120,000 per building. These are separate offers with separate conditions.
Eligible MURB chargers receive up to 50% of eligible costs, capped at $1,400 per charger with EV Ready infrastructure or $2,000 per standalone charger. The building maximum is $14,000. For qualifying Indigenous-owned buildings, the charger percentage is up to 75%, with respective per-charger limits of $3,900 and $4,500 and a $14,000 building maximum. Check the exact offer and applicant limits before estimating a project’s funding.
Strata corporations, co-ops and rental building owners have a $14,000 charger-rebate limit per fiscal year, April 1 to March 31. The new fiscal year starts April 1. Phasing still requires the applicable approvals and available funding; it is not a guarantee of future-year rebates. Individual MURB residents have a one-rebate lifetime limit.
The guide generally covers buildings with at least five homes, dedicated resident parking and the required electrical arrangements. The offer sections use an August 31, 2022 construction cutoff, with specified exceptions; do not assume a newer building qualifies. Eligible chargers must meet the listed technical, certification, ownership and network requirements. Tesla-manufactured chargers are excluded under the guide reviewed.
Obtain pre-approval before starting work or incurring eligible costs. The guide gives nine months to complete and submit EV Ready plan/infrastructure work; charger-only projects generally have six months, or nine when applying with infrastructure. Confirm the actual award deadline. FortisBC’s webpage shows a different standalone completion period, so a FortisBC applicant should obtain written confirmation rather than rely on a universal deadline here.

Workplace EV charging
Eligible workplace chargers can receive up to 50% of costs, capped at $2,000 per charger and $14,000 per workplace. The standard offer requires at least five employees based primarily at the site, dedicated employee parking and a building constructed no later than August 31, 2022. Obtain pre-approval before purchase or installation. Funding and the business-wide fiscal-year cap also apply. Official workplace charger offer.
What incentives cover common-area lighting?
BC Hydro’s MURB equipment page, checked October 29, 2026, lists $10–$185 per common-area LED luminaire and $15–$40 per lighting-control unit. It also lists parkade carbon-monoxide controls at up to $250 per unit and variable-speed drives at up to $140 per motor horsepower. The page does not provide an overall document effective date.
This MURB offer covers qualifying rental, condominium and equity co-op buildings in BC Hydro territory, including New Westminster. Listed forms include apartments and stacked townhomes of three storeys or more with common lighting and central mechanical systems. Side-by-side townhomes, multiplexes, new construction and commercial spaces in mixed-use buildings are excluded from this particular offer; another program may fit.
Networked lighting controls and qualifying redesigns follow the custom-project pathway rather than a universal per-unit amount. Apply before equipment purchase or removal and follow the funding agreement’s conditions. BC Hydro MURB equipment rebates · PTX lighting upgrades.
Is the 30% bonus still advertised?
The BC Hydro MURB page checked October 29, 2026 advertises a 30% bonus on qualifying electrical-efficiency mechanical and lighting projects until February 12, 2027, with implementation by March 14, 2028. Total incentives remain subject to the stated project-cost cap and program conditions. Do not apply the bonus indiscriminately to fuel-switching projects or other programs.
Use these absolute dates when discussing a project. Confirm eligibility, application timing and funding with BC Hydro before moving planned work forward. Official bonus notice.
What building heat-pump and hot-water rebates are listed?
The BC Hydro MURB page checked October 29, 2026 lists different incentives according to the building’s existing heating fuel. For electrically heated buildings, listed amounts include $1,000 per single-head heat pump, $800 per multi-split head, $1,200 per ton for central heat pumps, $2,000 per in-suite heat-pump water heater, $2,600 per suite for central heat-pump water heating and $1,500 per ton for ventilation make-up air.
For buildings switching from gas, oil or propane, the respective listed amounts are $3,000, $2,400, $3,600, $2,500, $2,600 and $6,000. These are distinct measures, not amounts that every project can combine. Several measures must cover a substantial portion of the suites; individual-suite offers are separate. PTX can help establish the electrical scope alongside the appropriate equipment and design professionals. Official equipment tables.
Can an electrical capacity upgrade qualify?
The fuel-switching table on BC Hydro’s MURB page, checked October 29, 2026, lists electrical capacity upgrades at $130 per tonne of lifetime CO2-equivalent greenhouse-gas savings. It is not a flat rebate for every panel or service upgrade: confirm how the proposed eligible fuel-switching project and emissions calculation apply.
Eligibility also varies between programs. For example, the solar/battery terms distinguish eligible panel-upgrade costs from excluded electrical-service upgrades; do not move an eligible-cost rule from one offer to another. MURB equipment offer · PTX electrical assessments.
What solar rebate is listed for homes and buildings?
BC Hydro’s solar/battery terms effective October 2, 2026 list solar at $1,000 per installed DC kilowatt, limited by 50% of eligible installed cost and the applicable property/customer maximum. The ordinary single-family maximum is $5,000. The BC Hydro commercial/MURB category has a $10,000 maximum, with a $50,000 maximum for qualifying social housing providers, Indigenous governing bodies and applicable remote-community categories.
A non-profit housing co-op may qualify under the defined social-housing-provider category; equity co-ops do not qualify for that social-housing category. Confirm the organization, property, account and rate conditions rather than assuming the higher cap. The terms describe MURB eligibility by building form, height and metering arrangement, and exclude individually metered apartment/condo suites.
An HPCN-member licensed installer is required for these rebates. Confirm the proposed installer’s current HPCN registration before authorizing work. Obtain the utility’s technical acceptance before purchase and installation. Solar and battery terms, October 2, 2026, sections 3–10.
What battery-storage rebate is listed?
The October 2, 2026 terms list batteries at $500 per installed kWh, limited by 50% of eligible installed cost and the applicable maximum. For eligible single-family properties, the ordinary maximum is $1,500 with solar or $5,000 with qualifying Peak Saver enrollment. The terms require qualifying BC Hydro batteries to enroll within 14 calendar days of the in-service date for the higher Peak Saver amount.
New Westminster customers cannot access Peak Saver-linked rebates under these terms. The BC Hydro commercial/MURB solar-paired category lists $10,000, or $50,000 for the specified higher-eligibility categories. Do not assume those BC Hydro-account categories apply unchanged to a New Westminster building.
Qualifying battery size starts at 5 kWh. Product eligibility, solar pairing, installer status and technical approval still apply. The terms exclude Tesla batteries with a narrowly defined earlier-application exception. They also contain an 18-month installation/documentation window and a separate six-month documentation requirement measured from interconnection approval: confirm both dates with the utility. A battery is not automatically an approved solution to a building-capacity constraint. Official terms, sections 4, 7–11 · PTX battery-backup planning.
Which rebates and free offers can homeowners use?
Free Mysa and Sinopé smart thermostats
Eligible BC Hydro residential customers can receive up to five free Mysa or Sinopé smart thermostats, with free shipping. Installation is not free; PTX installation is a separate paid service. The offer requires an online MyHydro account, electric baseboard heating at the account service address and Peak Saver enrollment. Confirm the available quantity and wiring compatibility before ordering; renters need their landlord’s permission.
Peak Saver can temporarily adjust enrolled thermostats during demand events, and you retain override control. Qualifying participation may earn a $50 seasonal household reward; the free-device offer does not include the separate enrollment bonus. BC Hydro: free smart thermostats, eligibility and ordering. PTX can check compatibility and quote installation separately.
Home EV chargers: up to $350, covering up to 50% of eligible purchase and installation costs. Eligible Level 2 installations at single-family homes, row homes and duplexes must meet the equipment and permit rules. Submit documentation within 180 days of installation. Official home charger offer.
Use the official Better Homes BC finder because household eligibility depends on home type, income, heating fuel and location. This guide does not publish one universal household heating rebate figure. The finder and Energy Coach contact were checked October 29, 2026.

What changes for New Westminster utility customers?
New Westminster is explicitly included in the MURB retrofit offer, but solar/battery pathways must be checked by property and account type. The October 2, 2026 solar/battery terms include eligible New Westminster customers from December 4, 2025, exclude them from Peak Saver-linked incentives, and distinguish BC Hydro-only commercial/MURB categories. General participation is not proof that every building receives every maximum.
Use the City’s own solar/storage application path and obtain written confirmation for a New Westminster MURB or commercial project. For EV charging, verify the correct administrator on the official offer page before applying. New Westminster Electrical Utility · Solar/battery terms.
Which pathways matter for housing co-ops?
Co-ops may qualify for EV charging offers, while the MURB retrofit offer specifies equity co-ops and the solar/battery social-housing category uses a different definition. A co-op should establish its actual ownership, non-profit status, building type and utility account before comparing amounts.
Co-op status alone does not make the organization a strata corporation. Where a co-op holds strata lots, check the strata corporation’s obligations; do not assume every co-op is exempt from every planning requirement. Rebate planning-document rules are separate from statutory EPR obligations. PTX co-op housing services · BC Strata Property Act, section 94.1.
Which dates should go into the project plan?
| Date or trigger | What to check |
|---|---|
| February 12, 2027 | Advertised MURB electrical-efficiency bonus window ends; confirm application conditions. |
| March 14, 2028 | Advertised implementation deadline for qualifying bonus projects. |
| April 1 each year | New EV charger-rebate fiscal year; applicable caps and funding still govern. |
| Written pre-approval | Starts the relevant EV completion/submission clock; read the specific award. |
| Technical acceptance and interconnection approval | Separate solar/battery clocks; confirm installation and final-document requirements. |
These are not a complete calendar of every property’s obligations. Check deadlines in the actual funding agreement and current official documents before committing costs.
What does PTX help with?
PTX can help define the electrical work behind a proposed rebate project: lighting and controls, EV charging and EVEMS, capacity assessments, equipment supplies and panel/service work. Confirm the site conditions, approvals, applicable contractor qualifications and complete scope before relying on funding.
Use the supporting articles to prepare questions: electrical supply and demand evidence, understanding a strata EPR review and keeping electrical planning records current. Their strata rules and advertised review scope should not be assumed to apply unchanged to a co-op.
