The need

The site required outside lighting repair, including parking lights and an illuminated sign. Access to the electrical room was not available at first, so the team arranged lift support and worked to obtain the electrical key before testing the sign circuit.

PTX's approach

PTX opened the sign to identify its bulbs and ballast, replaced eight T12 bulbs, and replaced two burnt-out parking-light bulbs. Once power was available for testing, the team checked the sign's supply and output voltage. Sparks and smoke led to the discovery of two melted wires with exposed copper. The damaged wiring was cut out and re-spliced before power was restored. The parking-light photocell was also checked and operated properly during the test.

The recorded result

The parking lights worked with the new bulbs and the photocell operated properly. After the damaged sign wiring was repaired, two sign lights worked, but the remaining sign lights did not. The recorded work did not establish the cause of the remaining sign-light issue, and the sign work was not fully completed. Further work was requested for quotation.

What this job helps another property owner consider

When outside lighting is not working, the useful next step may be a proper inspection rather than assuming every failed light needs the same repair. This job involved bulb replacement, access coordination, voltage checks and damaged-wiring repair, while some sign lights still required further investigation.
