Documented field work
Installation details and completed work

The need
The switch was installed in an easy box, but an open junction box in the wall fed into that box. Once drywall was installed, the junction box would not have been accessible. The recorded work also notes that the EMT connector entering the junction box did not have a lock.
PTX's approach
PTX removed the easy box and the junction box rather than leaving the arrangement behind the planned drywall. A 1110 surface device box was installed, and a shim was screwed to the side of the metal stud so the box would sit flush. The switch was then reinstalled in the new box.
The recorded result
The switch was reinstalled in the newly installed 1110 surface device box. The job record lists one electrical service, one 1110 surface device box, a two-wire Wago 221 lever connector and miscellaneous fasteners. The record does not state that any broader electrical work was completed.
What this job helps another property owner consider
Before drywall is installed, it is worth checking whether junction boxes and related connections will remain accessible. This Vancouver example shows that a small switch-box arrangement may need to be changed before the wall is closed, including making sure the new box sits properly against the framing.
Frequently asked questions
Questions property decision-makers ask
Why address a junction box before drywall is installed?
In this documented Vancouver service call, the junction box feeding the switch would not have remained accessible once drywall was installed. PTX removed that arrangement and installed a new surface device box before reinstalling the switch.
