Installation details and completed work

The need
The furnace was not working, and the switch near it did not have voltage. PTX also found a 12/2 circuit labelled “heat” at the panel and checked its continuity against the baseboard heater and furnace wiring to understand which circuit served which equipment.
PTX's approach
The technician tested the wiring at the switch and panel, then checked other switches with the tenant to find one whose purpose was unknown. A downstairs switch that was high up, switched off and not labelled was turned on for investigation. The furnace then started to work. PTX labelled that switch cover as “furnace” and reinstalled everything that had been removed during the checks.
The recorded result
The furnace started to work after the unidentified switch was turned on. The furnace switch was labelled, and the removed panel covers and switch cover plate were reinstalled. The recorded work was an electrical service call involving troubleshooting and identification of the furnace switch.
What this job helps another property owner consider
When equipment stops working, the control point may not be obvious. Clearly labelled switches can make it easier to identify what a circuit serves and can give an electrical technician a more useful starting point when tracing a problem.
Frequently asked questions
Questions property decision-makers ask
What did PTX find during this furnace electrical service call?
PTX found that an unidentified downstairs switch was switched off and not labelled. Turning it on caused the furnace to start working, so the switch cover was labelled “furnace” and the removed components were reinstalled.
