The need

The requested work was to diagnose and fix a flickering light at a property in Port Coquitlam. During testing, the light did not turn on until the switch was tapped, and small movements at the switch caused the light to turn off and on.

PTX's approach

PTX tested the switch and then disconnected and removed the old switch. The light was also tested by touching the wires together, where it stayed on. This helped identify the problem as being inside the old switch rather than the light itself.

The recorded result

A new white double 1-pole Decora switch was installed. The light was tested afterward and was working properly, staying on during the recorded test.

What this job helps another property owner consider

If a light changes behaviour when the switch is tapped or moved, the switch itself may need attention. This job shows why examining and testing the switch can be an important part of an electrical service call; it is not a diagnosis of any other property.
