The need

The visit covered a smoke/CO detector that was still acting up after a new battery was installed. The dimmer was also not operating the light: the recorded check found voltage coming into the dimmer, but none going to the light, indicating the dimmer was broken. Two other smoke detectors were noted as older—one dated January 30, 2017, and another with no visible date—but they were not recorded as replaced during this visit.

PTX's approach

PTX removed the old smoke/CO detector and installed a new combination detector. The dimmer was disconnected and removed, then replaced with a new Diva dimmer. Because the dimmer was a Decora-style device in a two-gang box beside a toggle switch, the adjacent toggle was also replaced with a Decora switch, followed by a new white two-gang Decora cover plate.

The recorded result

The recorded work for October 29, 2026, includes one new smoke/CO combination detector, one new Diva dimmer, one new Decora switch and one new two-gang Decora cover plate. The two additional older smoke detectors remain a separate consideration; the job record does not say they were replaced or tested.

What this job helps another property owner consider

If one detector is being replaced, it may be worth asking which other detectors are installed and whether their age or condition should also be reviewed. This example included two additional detectors identified as older, but it does not establish what another property needs.
