The need

The property had two separate concerns across two units. One doorbell had no power. In the other unit, a balcony light would not respond to its switch and remained on. These symptoms required separate checks rather than assuming both problems had the same cause.

PTX's approach

PTX tested the doorbell and traced its transformer location to a closet. The low-voltage wire was found disconnected from the transformer. For the balcony light, PTX removed the switch and checked the voltage behaviour, then removed the light fixture to inspect how it was connected. The light was found connected to constant power instead of the switch-controlled wires.

The recorded result

PTX terminated the low-voltage doorbell wire on the transformer. The doorbell light came on, and the doorbell was tested and recorded as working properly. PTX then re-terminated the balcony light to the proper wires and reinstalled the light and switch. The switch then controlled the light as intended.

What this job helps another property owner consider

When a doorbell or light control stops behaving normally, the visible symptom may not identify the fault. This job shows the value of checking the related transformer, switch wiring and fixture connections before deciding what repair is needed. The two issues here had different causes and were addressed separately.

Frequently asked questions

Questions property decision-makers ask

What did PTX find behind the doorbell problem?

The doorbell transformer was in a closet, and the white low-voltage wire was not connected to it. PTX terminated the wire on the transformer and recorded that the doorbell was working properly.
