Documented field work
Installation details and completed work

The need
The building needed electrical wiring to support a new fire monitoring system. The available information and equipment locations had to be clarified before the work could be laid out. After the monitoring company provided direction, PTX identified a route from the electrical room to the office and prepared the required materials.
PTX's approach
PTX ran 14/2 AC90 cable from the electrical room to the office and installed 18/6 armoured cable from the fire panel to the office. The route included work through the parkade, with holes drilled through concrete and cinder block walls. Temporary conduit was used while pulling the cable near wiring and sprinkler heads, then removed. The wiring was connected in the electrical panel using two single-pole breakers, with the panel index updated and the fire monitoring breaker painted red. The 18/6 cable was brought into the fire panel for the monitoring technician to terminate, and the technician completed the connections at the monitoring panel.
The recorded result
The fire monitoring circuit was turned on when the monitoring technician was ready to test it, and the recorded work notes state that it was working properly. PTX fire-caulked the penetration holes, reinstalled the panel cover and drop-down ceiling tiles, and cleaned up the work area.
What this job helps another property owner consider
A new monitoring system may require more than installing equipment at the final location. This job involved confirming the equipment route, coordinating with the monitoring technician, protecting the cable path around existing parkade services, and finishing the wall, panel and ceiling details after the wiring was in place.
