Documented field work
Installation details and completed work

The need
The requested task was to replace a light in a steam room. When the existing fixture was disconnected and removed, the octagon box was found to be full of water. The box was also not attached securely to the wall and was pulling away as the fixture was removed. The old box was removed, and the wires were marretted and taped while a suitable replacement fixture was sourced.
PTX's approach
The work was handled in two stages. After the initial removal, PTX sourced and picked up a new fixture. A new rab box was installed, followed by the new light fixture. The box was caulked around and behind it, while the bottom was left open so water could drain if it got behind the box. A drain hole was also drilled in the rab box, and waterproof marrettes were used for the light fixture splice.
The recorded result
The new rab box and light fixture were installed in the steam room. The recorded work also includes the drainage provision, caulking around and behind the box, and waterproof marrettes at the light fixture connection. The evidence records the installation work; it does not state a separate operating test result.
What this job helps another property owner consider
A light replacement in a steam room may involve more than changing the fixture itself. In this documented job, water was found inside the old box and the box was pulling away from the wall. For a similar property, the condition of the box and the way moisture is managed are practical items to have assessed as part of the electrical service call. This example is not a diagnosis of another property.
